The portrait neckline is a neckline that forms a mini collar effect and a low, wide scoop which offers a flattering view of the skin without showing the cleavage. It is usually lower-cut with a shawl-like addition around the shoulders.

 The portrait neckline (also referred to as the portrait collar) is a wide neckline style that frames the collarbone, much like a portrait, with straps or sleeve resting on the tips of the shoulder blades. 

The portrait collar is a variation of the off-the-shoulder neckline and also a surpilce variation of the v- neckline

Initially, the neckline, also called the bateau neck/Sabrina, was designed for sailors. The wide slit made it easy to change a shirt quickly, since it slips easily over the head.
